| These are just a few examples of the large size carriers we did. We have made quite a few for traveler in Japan as well. It depends on the size of your dog, how much 'power of love' you have and the distance/logistic of travel needed. Adding the wheels will add about 2 to 3 pounds to the carrier (depends upon the number of wheels - 5 or 6 wheels). For really large size carrier, the base support piece needs to be very sturdy (and heavy). If it is just a matter of lifting up the carrier to pass the turnstile and you can handle it, you may want to keep the structure simple without the wheels. Waiting for the gate to be buzzed open can be frustrating (perhaps this is a very NYC situation only)! Or if making the carrier slightly narrower can allow it to be squeezed through the turnstile, it may also be part of the consideration when you determine the right carrier size for your big dog. Most big dogs they owners are willing to travel with for long distance are properly trained. You would not need the carrier to be longer and taller than your dog as he/she would just lay down when the carrier is in motion. Just review the route of your travel to see what is the best for your dog AND you too! |
